I just wanted to share that we have tried & used MANY different things over the years but always, ALWAYS ended up back w/CHC & we use their full curriculum & have for years now...and will for many years to come. Not sure if this helps you but I had to put in my "vote" for CHC all the way! God bless!!!

CCD reply

Well, I always used Seton, but I found a site for FREE tests and answer keys for Faith and Life.
Faith and Life is what my parish uses, but we do Religion at home.
My kids are treated like Catholic School kids (they only attend what they attend--retreats etc.).

God bless,

This works for most elementary school aged kids, but I use it for the 1st Communion class: I use Seton's religion workbook and required the PARENTS to actually do the lessons each evening with their child. I am a firm believer that parents should be the primary teachers of the faith, so I supply them with the books and support, and the kids hear the faith from Mom and Dad and not some goofy lady on Sunday. That way, the parents are getting to know their religion too! (sneaky, I know, but it works!) Knowing what they had been working on all week helps me to plan the class time, where I do lots of miscellaneuos readings and activities that I have tailored over the years.

FOr the last 15 minutes of class time, we use the Rosary QUilt program, which teaches the kids one Mystery a week, and they are given activities to do with their parents during the week to reinforce the virtues attached to each Mystery. The parents "catch" their children being good during the week and reward them with a coin (any denomination is fine) On SUnday, they bring the coins to class and exchange them for rose petals (a part of the ROsary Quilt program) At the end of the year at the 1st Communion Mass during the offering, the children "offer" up the petals they earned by their acts of trying to grow in the virtues. Really neat! This works for most grades, up to about 5th grade. Younger kids need the activity blanket but older kids can just do the workbook and focus on the Mystery/virtue links.

BTW - the coins collected during the year are donated to a local pregnancy help center.

Hope this helps!
